Second Century Theater and Jericho

It was fascinating to sit in a second century theater this morning! We are grateful to the Insight for Living team members who schlep the sound equipment from venue to venue!

In Jericho, the ancient columns, mosaics and stonework were beautiful.

Bet She’an and Jerusalem

Today we started with worship in Bet She’an and ended with a drive over the hill to feast our eyes on the Holy City, Jerusalem. Breathtaking!

Oh yeah, and I got to see a stinky camel up close and personal. Pastor Chuck says they look like a horse put together by a committee.

King Saul Hung at Beth-shan

During the reign of King Saul, the Philistines controlled Beth-shan. The army of Israel fought the Philistines on nearby Mount Gilboa, and King Saul and his sons were killed. Their bodies hung in effigy on the walls of nearby Beth-shan until Hebrews from Jabesh-gilead recovered them (1 Samuel 31).

As our entire tour group sat in the theater today, Reg Grant portrayed one of these brave Hebrews who reclaimed Saul’s body from the wall. Chuck Swindoll gave a message on King Saul, which challenged each of us to evaluate our lives for spiritual erosion.

Am I following God with my whole heart? Are you?

Sea of Galilee tour boat in the sunset

This evening we all spent time on boats that were tethered together atop the Sea of Galilee. Chuck spoke about casting our bruises and burdens into the waters below. With small stones in hand to symbolize our heart-burdens, we cast them below the waters Jesus once walked on. Jesus tells us,

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:29-30)

Sea of Galilee Boat Ride

What joy to take a ride in a wooden boat on the Sea of Galilee (Tiberias). After traveling to the middle of the lake, the 7 boats were lashed together for a memorable worship service.
