Retelling of Elijah at Mount Carmel

At our visit to Mount Carmel, Dr. Gene Pond helped make the story of Elijah and the 450 prophets of Baal come alive as the entire bus acted out the story, complete with 3 take-away truths!

  1. “Thou shalt have no other gods before Me” (Exodus 20:3-5)
  2. Adoni: He is alive!
  3. I will have nobody, nothing, and no goal in my life ahead of the Lord of my life.

It was a great way to bond the group together on the first full day of touring!

A Monastery with a View

When we stood on the balcony of the monastery of Muhraqa on Mount Carmel, the overlook offered a stunning panorama of the surroundings that stretched out before us.

The foreground of the photo shows the traditional location where Elijah had his fiery showdown with the prophets of Baal (1 Kings 18).

At nearly 1640 feet above sea level, Mount Carmel offers a pristine view of its surroundings—especially of the Jezreel Valley. Arrows painted on the balcony floor point to notable hills in the distance:

  • Mount Tabor
  • Nazareth Ridge
  • the Hill of Moreh
  • Mount Gilboa

They all protrude from the valley floor like soldiers, strong and tall.
